Presidents Day - National Portrait Gallery
The National Portrait Gallery is an art museum that focuses on images of famous Americans. The museum is part of the Smithsonian museums in Washington D.C.
The museum houses the only complete collection of presidential portraits outside of those that belong to the White House. At one time in history, painted, sculpted or engraved likenesses were the only ways that most people could know what their President looked like. The Presidents collection of the National Gallery ranges from oil paintings and marble sculptures to cotton handkerchiefs and sewing-box lids.
