Weiner Elementary, a rural K-6 school in the Harrisburg School District, is a designated Arkansas School of Innovation. It is a school focused on meeting the needs of the whole child, a place embraced and enriched by our community. Surveyed stakeholders responded that the word best describing our school was “family.”
Each day brings our school together for shared learning in morning assembly. The Pledge of Allegiance and Americana songs are followed by multimedia lessons on the Artist, Musician, and Place of the Week, along with character-building information. The principal facilitates the assembly, allowing children to see her first as an educator.
Our overarching focus, ensuring students have command of the skills and attitudes enabling them to live the life they choose and not a life dictated by their circumstances, permeates all. Along with the core curriculum, emphasis is placed on creativity, communication, character, and command of technology through our 1:1 computer initiative. Field trips and guest speakers help provide engaging real world experiences, empowering children to feel “part” of the world and not “apart” from it.
Weiner Elementary constantly seeks new ways to better serve children. Weiner Elementary is, as our motto states: “A great place to be today’s kid!”
